Summary

This is one of three pieces exhibited at the Korean Malaysian Festival, Lightbox, KL, Malaysia, Feb 2018. The collection is inspired by both Korean and Malaysian elements. The lady represents the Koreans coming to live in Malaysia. Crossing the sea, this portrait of beauty cradles her Joseon dreams in the palms of hope, spilling into Sarawak curlicues. She floats between clouds, discovering paths everywhere she goes in this new land, unveiling spiraling colors.

Bumping into Koi fishes with hornbill horns, she sweeps them up, carries them on her hanbok. They swim persistently, tugging her along untouched waters. She wonders, where would this take her?   Note: This painting is inspired by Shin Yun-bok’s Portrait of a Beauty
