Bong Choo Chew

Summary

Bong Deng Choo Chew was born in 1953, Kuching, Sarawak. From 1974 till 1975, Bong pursued his interest in arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). In 1984, he became one of the founders of the Sarawak Artist Society (SAS. ) As the Honourable Secretary then, Bong organized its inaugural exhibition at the Sarawak Museum In 1985. Previously, Bong has worked on Chinese brush watercolour and batik painting . He then embarked into the realm of oil painting the 1990s. In recent years, the artist has developed a distinctive and evocative style and technique in oil with a special collage creation which has become his own. One of his oil paintings is now in the collection of the Sarawak Museum.

Bong Deng Choo Chew’s most recent artworks revolve around living things such as nature, lotus and Japanese koi, Apart from that, his works are well influenced by the philosophy of Buddhism, Taoist, Zen, Taiji and Yin Yang which are inclusive of both impressionism and abstract.
