David Chew

Summary

David Chew is an exceptional artist who has developed his own unique style of abstract expressionism, which is rare in Sarawak. His journey began with training in impressionist painting from a young age, but he evolved into an abstract expressionist in 2000. He uses drip-and-pour painting technique, also called Action Painting, and combines it with other techniques and styles to create a unique visual experience. His subjects are conceptual, philosophical, emotional, and reflective of real-life incidents.

David’s art vision is to “make the invisible visible,” which is evident in his creations that touch every soul and create awareness in every individual’s life journey. Through his abstract paintings, he also showcases Sarawak’s rich culture and heritage, aiming to bring Sarawak to the world. Since 2017, David is the President of Sarawak Artists Society, one of the most prestigious art societies in Sarawak. He is also a member artist of the Malaysia National Visual Arts Gallery. David’s solo Art Show, “Encounter,” held in 2014, received critical acclaim from art enthusiasts. His participation in various art projects and exhibitions, both domestic and international, such as the International Art Camp in Poland, the Art Camp in Kota Kinabalu, and the International Art Camp in Alor Setar, have further cemented his position as an accomplished artist.

David’s artworks are collected locally and abroad by collectors ranging from corporate to individual. He was involved in the beautifying project for various hotels, such as Pullman Hotel, Pacific Regency Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Alliance Bank, Lush Residences, etc.

In addition to his passion for art, David is also exploring electronic medium and has already created some stunning pieces using this medium. He is an avid speaker and trainer for numerous workshops and has been a judge for several art competitions.
