Summary

Jane sketches and paints in a few media, mostly with acrylics on canvas and Chinese Ink on rice paper. She uses fusion of different styles in her works. Her philosophy in painting is to produce art pieces that can speak to the viewers. Jane Ling’s interest in art and painting began at a young age. Painting has always been her hidden passion as she pursued her career as a high school Chemistry teacher. It was only after she retired in 2007 that she devoted much of her leisure time painting and soon realized her childhood dream as an artist! Being an avid gardener and a keen photographer of nature, Jane’s artworks are mostly inspired by the exotic flora and fauna of Sarawak.

Her only formal art education was via parttime lessons from a few renowned local artists. In her journey as an artist, she has created many paintings – from Chinese ink to acrylics in abstract and semi-realism.

Her works have been picked up not only by local collectors but also by enthusiasts in Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia. Apart from painting on papers and canvases, Jane makes use of her artistic flair in charitable mural paintings for schools and charitable organizations, for instance, the House of JOY in Kuching and at the Sarawak General Hospital. Urban sketching is also her favourite past time during the weekends. As a member of the Urban Sketchers of Kuching, she joins them in their monthly sketch crawls.

Jane is the Treasurer of the Sarawak Artists Society and a life member of both the Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) and the Kuching Chung Hua Arts Association (古 晋中华书画研究会 ). After joining SAS, she has been participating actively in numerous art exhibitions that were held in Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and also in Foshan, China.
