Marzuki Jamilah

Summary

Marzuki Jamilah, is a self-taught artist who was born in Kuching, Sarawak in 1971, and currently working as a government servant at one of the well-known universities in Malaysia. Growing up with not having the chance to pursue his education in any arts field, he managed to learn and discover a passion for arts specifically in painting and drawing since young age. His distinctive personal style emanates the unique spirit and atmosphere of the native’s culture. He started off with drawing cartoon characters to carving and abstract paintings to 3-Dimensional arts that mainly use mixed media techniques. As the artist explains, “I am a storyteller and I welcome you to join me on this visual journey”. The details on Marzuki’s artworks mostly portray the expressions of culture. Marzuki states that, the university certificates are only the ticket for one to be qualified in arts field, if you are mindful enough to master the arts, then nothing is impossible. Although he is a self-taught artist, this does not stop him from learning various kinds of arts. He hopes for chances to be given and Marzuki will thrive to come out with tremendous arts ideas in the future.
