Summary

French, born 1941, Georges has been sauntering in the Great Forests of Borneo and drawing inspiration from their extraordinary diversity, since 2005, when he made Kuching his home. When a teenager, Georges did not have much interest in arts. However, his interest was triggered, when attending graduate studies in botany and geology and he started roaming the French Alps and sketching wild flowers. Later on, working in New Orleans, where everyone had a hobby, he bought a painting kit in a wooden box, which he still keeps preciously.

In Holland, he joined a watercolour group and in Nigeria, he was lucky to have private lessons from Pr. Mike Omoighe. Georges and Jacinta also hosted weekly portrait drawing group meetings in their home. After retirement from Shell International, he decided to focus on artistic activities and obtained a Diploma in Foundation Studies from Middlesex University, while walking and sketching with Jacinta along the London Outer Orbital Path (LOOP). In Kuching , he first joined art classes with Melton Kais and later on, he met Gerald Goh and joined the Sarawak Artists Society. He participated in over 20 art exhibitions in Kuching and also “Tree of Life” and “Climate Change” in Kuala Lumpur and exhibitions in Kota Kinabalu and Foshan, China.

He is also a skilful sketcher. He participated in both Bangkok and Kuching Asia-Link Sketchwalks. Georges takes his inspiration from his walks. Sauntering with Jacinta, in love they hold hands. Their minds open to the joy of chance encounters. They take photographs, and both draw quick sketches. Georges has discovered the freedom, of the painter in front of his canvas, of the walking artist on a slow and contemplative walk, and the joy of creating art for his own pleasure. He now lives a happy and colourful life surrounded by his creations.
