Summary

In my past experience of creativity, I’ve encountered two incredibly different types of processes - one that takes enormous amount of time to think, plan and comes up with a decision, at times the process even comes to a standstill, unable to move forward for the longest time.  The other process, on the contrary, the image is already on my mind, and all I need to do is just to pen it down on the canvas - and this is the kind of process for this particular artpiece.

This image comes to mind because there was a lot of influx of negative news, topped with the mistreatment of the dogs at the factory across the road, I felt overwhemed by the powerlessness in that situation - neither do I have the ability to fight, nor the courage to express.  At the time when I first did the initial digital sketches, the sea was actually filled with negative elements.  When the work entered the final stage, one morning, the sun shone into the room and the light source was reflected on the canvas, projecting HOPE at that very moment, I therefore decided not to prescribe any negative labels, but instead, to give the viewers their choice to decide - do you see Hope or Suffocation?
